German Goldenshteyn Tribute Concert - Brooklyn, September 17, 2006 - 7 p.m.

Friday, September 1st, 2006

From Alex Kontorovich -

Dear friends,

I hope this email finds you well. As exciting as my summer has been with traveling, performing and teaching all over the world, I’ve returned home with a harsh reminder of the song “Abi Gezunt” - if you have your health, thank your lucky stars. My grandfather and a close friend from high school and college are both sleeping in hospital beds tonight, and as you are probably already aware, earlier this summer we lost German Goldenshteyn. There is little I can do for the former beyond praying and visiting, and, well, it’s too late for German.

In an effort to repay German’s family for his years of tutelage, the world’s top klezmorim have agreed to join me in a memorial concert benefiting his widow, Mina. We cordially invite you to strap on your dancing shoes and come find out why German’s 1000-tune repertoire is notorious for filling the dance floor. Let’s show the Goldenshteyn family that, although German is gone, his influence is everlasting (I’m sure they’d reverse the trade in a heartbeat if they could).

The details:
Sunday Sept 17th, at SouthPaw, 125 Fifth Ave, Brooklyn, 7 PM doors, 8 PM
concert/dance party
Tickets $30 at the door, $25 in advance - go to http://metpo.com/tickets
All proceeds go to the family
The lineup:
Alicia Svigals, Pete Sokolow, Aaron Alexander, Margot Leverett, David Licht, Susan Watts, Cookie Segelstein, Rachel Lemisch, Sarah Ferholdt, Dan Blacksberg, Michael Winograd, Jeff Perlman, Audrey Wright, Mark Rubin (all the way from Austin, TX!), Timothy Quigley, Joey Weisenberg, Adrian Banner, Amy Zakar, Jeff Warschauer, Deb Strauss, and many more!

Thanks for your time, and I hope to see you on the 17th. Let’s pray all our loved ones have a speedy recovery. All the best,

-Alex
